Fixed split air conditioners need a building permit in most cantons because they alter the facade and the building's technical systems. Our units work differently: nothing is permanently mounted, nothing is drilled, and the line passes through a tilted window. Without structural changes, no permit is generally required. Only if you want to mount the outdoor unit permanently on the facade should you check your municipality's rules first.
Yes. The Swiss tenants' association confirms it: mobile air conditioning units are allowed without the landlord's consent as long as no structural changes are made. Our units are built exactly for this: no drilling, no facade mounting, and they move out with you.
Indoors, far quieter than any monobloc, because the heat exchanger works outside. In silent mode the indoor units measure 38 to 39 dB(A), about as loud as rustling leaves. At full power it is around 49 to 51 dB(A). The outdoor unit reaches 56 to 61 dB(A): for night use, avoid placing it right outside your neighbour's bedroom window.
Roll the indoor unit into place, put the outdoor unit on the window sill with the included bracket or on the balcony, tilt the window, pass the line through, plug in. It takes about 10 minutes the first time and needs no tools or drill. Works with standard windows, balcony doors, roof windows and French balconies. A window seal from our accessories keeps the gap tight.
Much less than most people think. Thanks to the inverter and split principle (SEER 5.6 to 6.1), the units draw 300 to 600 watts on average while cooling. At 30 centimes per kWh, an hour of cooling costs about 10 to 20 centimes, a full night about 1 to 1.50 francs. A typical monobloc uses more than double for the same effect. In heating mode, 1 kWh of electricity delivers about 4 kWh of heat.
The window stays tilted or slightly open so the line can pass through. With a window seal or our acrylic panel the gap is practically airtight: barely any warm air gets in, no insects, and the unit stays efficient. Unlike a monobloc, there is no negative pressure sucking warm air in from outside.
A monobloc has compressor and heat exchanger in one housing inside the room: it is loud (55 to 65 dB), blows hot exhaust air out through a thick duct and constantly sucks warm air back in. In a portable split, the hot, loud part works outside. The result: several times the cooling power, roughly half the electricity, and a bedroom you can actually sleep in.
The Midea PortaSplit and the SplitClima S12 heat as heat pumps with 3.5 kW, the S12 down to minus 10 degrees outside. 1 kWh of electricity yields about 4 kWh of heat (SCOP 4.0), roughly four times cheaper than an electric heater. Ideal for the shoulder seasons, holiday homes or single rooms. The PortaSplit Cool is the cooling-only version.

All units carry the statutory 2-year warranty, handled directly by us in Switzerland, with no shipping to China or Germany. On top we voluntarily offer a 30-day return right: test the unit and, if it does not fit, send it back in its original packaging.
From 2027 Switzerland gradually restricts placing new devices with R32 refrigerant on the market. Split systems like ours have a transition period until the end of 2028. What matters for you as an owner: purchased units may be used, serviced and refilled without limit. The rule only affects the sale of new devices, not their use. For what comes after, we are already working on models with the natural refrigerant R290.
